The use of CBD Oil for neuropathy seems to work better than other anti-inflammatory pain medications such as ibuprofen. Many physicians have found better results with anti-seizure medications or antidepressants. These are medications work on the nervous system, where receptors for cannabinoids are found.

One reason why people are looking into alternative treatments is due to the unpleasant side effects of other medications.

Anti-seizure medications have unpleasant side effects like constipation and nausea. Most antidepressants have similar effects and they can also cause weight gain.

CBD oil has not been shown to have any of these negative side effects.

Is CBD Oil Effective for Diabetic Neuropathy

Cannabidiol (CBD) works with the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS). It has a variety of effects that are both indirect and direct that will affect the ECS.

CB1 and CB2, receptors, found mostly in brain and nerve cells, regulate both pain and inflammation in unique ways. New research and trials offer promise that CBD oil may be an effective treatment for a number of conditions and diseases.

These include anxiety, PTSD, some cancers, and ADHD. Although more research is needed, CBD oil has become more prominent as a treatment option for diabetic neuropathy.

CBD Oil and Prediabetes

CBD oil may be beneficial in individuals who have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes or who have a high risk of type 2 diabetes. For people with high levels of insulin, insulin resistance, and low levels of HDL cholesterol, a recent research reviewed the use of cannabis on these factors.

Participants in the study who used cannabis had decreased fasting insulin levels compared to those that had never used cannabis.

The cannabis users had a17% decrease in insulin resistance levels and higher HDL cholesterol, which put them at a lower risk of developing diabetes.

A similar study looked at CBD oil in obese mice. It was found that CBD lowered the risk of diabetes. In the non-CBD oil group, 85% of the mice developed diabetes, compared to 30% in the CBD usage group.

CBD was also found to reduce the risk of insulitis, a disease of the pancreas. While further studies are needed, these findings are promising.

CBD Oil for Treatment of Pain Management

Diabetic neuropathy is a painful condition and several studies show that CBD oil is effective at reducing inflammation and pain related to the nervous system.

A study performed at the University of Liverpool looked at 64 patients with neuropathic pain. Half of this group received a spray with a placebo and the other half received a spray with THC and CBD.

After four weeks of treatment, the patients receiving the THC and CBD had major reductions in pain and sleep disturbances.

A study at the University of California looked at the use of vaporized cannabis on reducing chronic neuropathic pain. The study showed that cannabis was a promising treatment in a variety of pain syndromes that are caused by injury to the nervous system.

CBD oil can provide relief through glycine receptors, which are present throughout the nervous system. CBD oil increases the action of these receptors which can then lead to a reduction in nerve-related pain.

Taking CBD Oil with Diabetic Neuropathy

CBD oil has been shown to be free of harmful side effects. In some cases, it may interact with medications such as antibiotics sand antidepressants.

After discussing CBD use with your physician, you’ll have to decide on its usage. Several options that may be effective include oil drops, capsules, patches and vapes. Vaping the is fast acting but the effect won’t last as long as ingesting the oil or capsules.
